Mindfulness and Parenting Mindfulness is all about living in the moment - being aware of what is happening here and now and observing things for what they really are. Not what we want them to be. This fact is even more pertinent as a parent when everything you do has a direct impact on your child.

During a child’s formative years, the relationship between parent and child is the crucial base from which they grow and develop into a responsible and conscious adults. Their most important life lessons are being learned with you, their first teacher – the parent, by their side.

Mindfulness brings a new element to parenting. It focuses your attention to what is going on in the present moment. Whether it be a moment of conflict resolution or a spot of cuddles – each moment spent together is one of learning for you and your child.

How you communicate, the way you interact with your spouse, and even the way you sit has an impact. Children are like sponges. They absorb everything – the good and the bad. They are also like clay – ready to be moulded and shaped. That is your job. Take advantage of this time with them to show them the ropes of life.

In today’s modern society, parenting is tough. There are so many different expectations and many roles to play – the parent, the office worker, the spouse and so on. With these pressures comes the need to be grounded and present. Take your time, believe in your gut and use mindfulness as your guide.
