Getting out in nature is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Being able to share these joys with children is beneficial in many ways.
How to Do it: The aim of this exercise is to get children to pay attention to what is around them. From the larger animals (birds, squirrels, fish and raccoons) to little creepy crawlies (ants, flies and so on). It is especially important to help younger children focus their attention (Young, 2017). Peaking their interest by saying that you are going on an adventure will help to develop enthusiasm!
Benefits: Getting outside exposes both adult and child to fresh air, a new environment and a new perspective. Teaching the child that it is important to leave nature as it is rather than picking or collecting also helps to teach them to appreciate things and leave them for others to appreciate as well!
When to Do it: Anytime if the weather permits
