Many of us are familiar with the concept of mindfulness. As we all cope with the pandemic, mindfulness has become a common practice for many people. The reality is that mindfulness is a practice that has been around for centuries and its benefits have long been experienced by thousands. As the focus on mindfulness grows and touches a wider range of people, so to does the importance of exposing children to its benefits.

Children absorb what is around them without judgment and if we are not careful these influences can have a serious effect on a child's developing perspective of the world and themselves. Perhaps the most important aspect is the ability for a child to learn how to slow down and take their time. Pre COVID days were filled with grown ups rushing about complaining that 24 hours was not enough. As we have adjusted to a new way of living it is our duty to show the next generation a healthier way of relating to life and ourselves.

The benefits of introducing mindfulness to children at a young age are many fold. They include:

  • Strengthens self-control.

  • Lower's anxiety and stress.

  • Increases positive moods.

  • Better decision making.

  • Increases self-esteem.

  • Improves social skills and communication.

Have you introduced mindfulness to the children in your life?
